Construction time

The P&F have some exciting news!

After committed fundraising from the P&F and the enthusiastic support of the school community, we have now raised enough funds to start construction on the Sensory Garden play space!

While the students and teachers are away having a well-earned rest following the end of term 3, the construction workers will move in and begin the task of digging out the space between the HUB, Bukatila and the JLC classes.  Once the area is cleared and reshaped, all the materials will be brought in.  Boulders, logs, tyres, plants, sand and more will all be utilised in creating the sensory garden play space.  By the time classes recommence for term 4, students will have a new play space, that while not fully complete, will give them an idea of what the final area will look like.  Features like the outdoor play kitchen will take a little longer to construct but will be ready for the new school year.

See below for a map of what is planned for the sensory garden play space.

A huge thank you to all the parents in the school community for their support in making this vision a reality.  We are really excited about creating a new space for children to wonder, explore and discover.

Q | Want to know a joke about Pizza’s??

A| I can’t tell you… it’s too cheesy!!

On Wednesday, the students ate 210 pizza’s, 179 jellies and drank 180 juice boxes!!  AND THEY WERE STILL HUNGRY … not really 🙂

Thank you to all the students and parents for again supporting a hot food day at school.  This is a quick and easy way to raise money for our school and give the kids something yummy and different to eat.

Check out some of our hungry little caterpillars eating their way through all that food.

I’ve had the time of my life….

Did your child throw some shapes, bust a move or boogie to the beat at the Tropical disco on Friday night?

It was so much fun to see the kids dress up in their tropical themed outfits.  There were lei’s galore, Hawaiian shirts and tropical patterns as far as the eye could see and that was just the P&F committee!!

We had 160 kids over the two disco sessions, we served nearly 150 slices of pizza, 200 hot dogs and 100 cups of fruit salad.  In the parents retreat we had 40 parents sit back relax and enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese platter in the quiet and the warmth of the HUB.

Check out some of the great shots from the disco “photo booth” below.

And I owe it all to youthanks to the P&F committee, parent helpers and teachers for another rocking disco!

FATHER’S DAY

You think you’d be guaranteed a sleep in on Father’s Day?

Not a chance, before 6am I am asked what I want for breakfast – I can’t even open my eyes yet, bacon and eggs it is, with a nice cup of coffee!

Whoops, should do presents first – what an array of best Dad accolades! It’s nice to know that I’m the World’s Greatest Dad – for a moment I feel sorry for all the other Dads out there!  Nothing a couple of home-made ginger bread biscuits at 6.10am can’t fix… crumbs all through the bed, Mum’s not going to be happy about this!  Where’s my coffee??

What, more presents… oven mitt, travel mug, handy tool, rocky road, socks, all picked lovingly by my children from the P&F Father’s Day stall.  All topped off with home-made cards and a hand drawn tie for the day, not only the World’s Greatest but now the best looking Dad!

Presents done, a bacon and egg breakfast, a hot coffee and all squeezed in bed to enjoy the morning – it’s not even 7am yet, what a great start to Father’s Day, I’m off for a snooze now.

Happy Father’s Day from a blessed St Michael’s Dad!

Editor’s note:

Thanks to the P&F committee for all their hard work, cookies were baked and iced, rocky road was made, lollies were packaged and labels were designed and affixed, the fabulous Father’s Day Stall flyer was created and sent home for kids to plan and choose from, prices were debated and decided and lastly the volunteers were prepped, setting up the stall and serving on the day.  Why was all this hard work undertaken…simply…’cos DAD’s ROCK!!   Here’s to all the Dad’s out there…we hope your Father’s Day rocked too!
